Burlesque (2010)

By Ahmed Al Kiremli

Movie Story

A poor girl from a small town, believing she can do better for herself, quits her bartending job and travels to Los Angeles to take her singing and dancing talents to the next level. She starts out at a burlesque (singing and dancing) bar as a cocktail waitress but is given the amazing opportunity to become the lead singer of the performance troupe, eventually saving the bar from a financial meltdown.

Ahmed Al Kiremli Opinion

The movie was far better than I expected. The story was quite interesting, and the performances from Christina Aguilera (Ali) and Stanley Tucci (Sean) were amazing. The songs, music, and dancing were beautiful, and Christina Aguilera’s singing was just fabulous. The romantic touches were very nice, and there were many interesting comedy scenes, especially with Stanley Tucci (Sean). I really enjoyed the movie, and I recommend it for everybody. I don’t usually enjoy musicals, but this one was outstanding.

8MM (1999)

By Ahmed Al Kiremli

Movie Story

A private detective is hired by an old lady from a rich family to investigate the murder of a young girl that she found on a video tape in her husband’s safe after his death. The detective, working hard to solve the puzzle of the tape, gets caught up in the investigation.

My Opinion

Sometimes something in life pushes you beyond your imagination. The truth or your conscience can catch up with you if you get too curious, and that’s exactly what happens to private detective Tom Welles (Nicolas Cage) in this movie. The story was well written, as was the dialog. Nicolas Cage did a good job in terms of performance. Watching the movie, you might feel uncomfortable because the story is a tragedy about murder, and this movie makes you realize how far some people can go. Definitely worth watching.

The End

The Fighter (2010)

By Ahmed Al Kiremli

Movie Story

The Fighter is a drama about boxer Micky “Irish” Ward’s unlikely road to the world light welterweight title. Micky faces many troubles and struggles on his way to success. He has learned everything he knows from his brother Dicky, a boxer turned trainer, but at the same time, most of Micky’s troubles also stem from his brother’s drug and crimes problems. Micky’s mother and family also create problems for Micky’s focus in life and career success.

My Opinion

Based on a true story, the movie was generally sad and a little boring, especially at the beginning of the movie, but with time it got more interesting. Christian Bale was amazing as Dicky. You are not going to love the character because he has problems, but his performance was amazing.
The story is about the struggle for success. The end of the story is the best thing about the movie. It’s really a happy ending, and the way Dicky stands for his brother Micky is touching. I liked Amy Adams as Micky’s girlfriend. My prediction for this movie is that Christian Bale as Dicky will get the Oscar; he really deserves it for his acting performance.

Little Fockers (2010)

By Ahmed Al Kiremli

Movie Story

The current God Focker, Jack’s father-in-law (Robert DeNiro), tests Jack (Ben Stiller) to see if he’s qualified to be the next God Focker of the family and good enough for his daughter, Jack’s wife.

My Opinion

Well, I always say that whenever you see many good actors in one movie, the movie’s not going to be so good, with few exceptions. There’s really no story at all. They made the movie without a plot. Maybe this was intentional, especially from a production standpoint, because why should they care? At the end of the day, the movie, which is a sequel to a well-known film, makes money for the producers. However, I think the actors should care more about their reputation and quality of work because a couple million in their bank account isn’t going to make that big a difference for them, especially in the long run when their future offers go down. The movie didn’t have more than five scenes that you really laugh about, two of which were amazing. The best thing about the movie was the music: similar to the music of the Godfather movies, but with a humorous touch. It’s a fun movie and OK to watch. You won’t feel like you’ve wasted your money, but at the same time, you won’t feel like you’ve watched a good comedy movie.
