Unfaithful (2002)

By Ahmed Al Kiremli

Movie Story

A married woman meets a young book trader in the street during a windy day and, after having an affair with him, becomes obsessed with him. Her husband becomes suspicious, so he decides to hire somebody to track his wife to discover if she’s cheating on him.

Ahmed Al Kiremli Opinion

About a cheating wife having an affair with a handsome stranger, it’s one of the best movies ever made in this genre. The story is very tense and interesting, simply unforgettable. I have seen this movie more than ten times; whenever it’s on TV, I just can’t change the channel. Diane Lane’s performance was outstanding; it’s one of her best movies ever. The director has another great movie in this genre as well, Indecent Proposal from 1993.

Season of the Witch (2010)

By Ahmed Al Kiremli

Movie Story

A medieval knight is given a last-chance mission: to save a city from the plague. The people of the city think that a witch is creating the plague with her magic, so they charge the knight and his friend with delivering the witch for trial, sending them on a week-long dangerous journey.

My Opinion

The best thing about the movie was the sword-fighting scenes. The quality of scenes in terms of location and clothing was very good. The first scene of the movie was interesting, but unfortunately the rest of the movie was not up to par. The story was not that interesting. The acting of the two leads, Nicolas Cage and Ron Perlman, was weak, although the supporting actors did a good job, especially Claire Foy (the witch). The movie in general was boring and not easy to finish. Nicolas Cage is a very interesting actor and is known for a number of good movies, but recently his performance has been dropping off. At least four of his last ten movies weren’t great, including this one, The Bad Lieutenant, The Wicker Man, and World Trade Center. He needs to be more careful about selecting his future roles.

Ahmed Al Kiremli Opinion in Few Words

The beginning was a little boring, but the movie got more interesting with the time, especially at the end. Ray Liotta gave an amazing performance, as usual. The story was very interesting, but the directing could have been better.

Battle: Los Angeles (2011)

By Ahmed Al Kiremli

Movie Story

A retired Marines staff sergeant agrees to go back into duty with a group of Marines to evacuate some civilians trapped in an area invaded by an army of aliens.

Ahmed Al Kiremli Opinion

The story is similar to many other, older movies, but with some extra drama added to it. The story didn’t have too many twists, and the way the story was presented in terms of directing was very nice. Director Jonathan Liebesman crafted a realistic story. The way he showed the aliens was very realistic using silhouettes and digital effects. He didn’t want to focus on the external features of the aliens in order to make the movie more realistic.
There were no over-exaggerated extra effects in this movie. The beginning was a bit slow, but with the time it got more exciting. The sound mixing and cinematography were amazing. Leading actor Aaron Eckhart did a good job, and Bridget Moynahan is always lovely, but her role in this movie was small. Michelle Rodriguez always fits these roles.

Black Swan (2010)

By Ahmed Al Kiremli

Movie Story

A ballet dancer struggles and works hard to win the lead role as the Swan Queen in Swan Lake. To perform the roles of both the white and black swans, she struggles to control and prepare herself perfectly for the role.

Ahmed Al Kiremli Opinion

Natalie Portman deservingly won the Oscar for best leading actress. The role was not at all easy, or maybe it’s just because she acted so well that you feel the role is so difficult, so complicated. One moment she’s sad; another moment she’s happy. On the other hand, the role took her more than a year to prepare for because she used to be a ballet dancer but hadn’t danced for more than a decade. Such a role is really hard to perform, and again, she deserved the Oscar for it. Mila Kunis and Vincent Cassel also gave very good performances.
The director produced a good movie, but confusing. The script was not so good, but the music was very nice, especially the piano. Is it an entertaining movie to watch? No, because the story is very sad and bewildering. Sometimes you start doubting your own memory because you don’t know if the lead character is in the real world or in her imagination; she fights with her inner self and gets lost in her own mind.
The pressure of such competition is immense. Many dancers lose control and fail to continue, but not to the degree that they kill themselves! What’s so true about the movie is how it shows the jealousy of women; you can feel it in any competitive environment, whether at work or at a ballet studio.
