Have you found yourself stuck, wondering what you need to do next, what’s the next big step toward your goal? The main reason for that is a lack of desire.

Your desire is an essential thing to know before you decide where you are heading. You need to ask yourself over and over again if the thing you are planning to do is for you or not. Don’t try to live other people’s lives; be yourself and follow your passion and desire, otherwise you will get bored quickly and will quit easily. Choosing your path based on your desire is critical before you start any journey.

If you want to make money, then you should have the desire to make money and to overcome all the challenges, all the criticism that you’re going to face from your family and friends. You also should be strong enough to face the people who will laugh at you when you present your idea or fail in some ventures. Many people are watching what you are doing quietly — you know why? Because they are waiting for you to fail so they can come to you and say, “Well, we told you this is not going to work,” or, “This is very risky or hard.” They will tell you that not because you didn’t follow their great advice but to satisfy themselves. They need to justify why they are limited in their achievements or still employees and couldn’t dare to take a step further, because the fear is eating at them. You must have a strong desire to achieve what you want to achieve and prove the many haters wrong.

“The best revenge is massive success.” — Frank Sinatra

If you want to transition from employee to entrepreneur, then you should have the desire to take action. You should have the desire to suffer through the process for a certain number of years to achieve your dream. Make sure at the beginning that if you are not sure if you have the fortitude to suffer through the process that you select something that you enjoy to help keep you from quitting.

At the beginning, when I was doing some projects offline and online, I was thinking only about the things that I liked to do. But now that I have shifted into the business-through-automation mindset, I don’t care if I enjoy the project while I’m doing it or not, as long as I eliminate myself from the operations. If I am involved operationally, then I must enjoy it in order to do it.

The numbers don’t lie, whether it is a project that you like or you don’t like. So what you need to see is positive achievement — positive numbers — regardless if you enjoy this business or not. If you enjoy the game of making money but not the business itself, who cares? Many authors and experts talk about doing something that you love. For me, it’s not always the right advice, unless you are operationally involved. My advice to you is to do something that works.

Now I don’t care if I like a project or not. When I create a project, I care about if that project is going to add a certain amount of value for a certain group of people. If I’m convinced that the business is going to add value to certain customers — whether I’m passionate about it or not — I might get involved.

And with time as you build more experience, you will get to know that you’re right or not from the feedback that you are getting from your projects. Sometimes you have to jump into a project to test your inner voice and vision, and that’s what I enjoy now in the game of business. With time, you become better and better in the game, and you know more about where your desire is leading you.

Desire is all about you hankering or hoping to achieve something to get a certain result or outcome out of a certain journey. And you should keep motivating yourself to try and test different journeys till you figure out which journeys you enjoy the most, then focus on them.

If you would like me to help you with your journey, please let me know more about you and your business by clicking here.

Question: What matters for you the most when you start any business that you are not involved in it operationally, passion or numbers? Please share your thoughts as comment below?

Most often, employees wake up in the morning, have a quick breakfast, rush-feed the kids if they have any, drop them off at school quickly, then dash quickly to work to arrive at 9 a.m., grabbing their morning coffee. Then they work two to three hours, keep looking at their watches to count the minutes until lunch time, sometimes stretching their hour lunch to 90 or 120 minutes. They return to work for a couple of hours, chat with colleagues, work a bit more, then spend the rest of the time planning when to leave work.

Other employees kill themselves working an extra two to three hours because they are workaholics or hope to achieve a promotion. After they leave work they are stuck in traffic because of rush hour, then reach home in one to three hours, based on traffic and distance. During weekdays they often don’t have time for family, sports or entertainment because they’re exhausted from their work routine and always under stress to keep their job by strictly following the policies and politics of the company and doing their best to be nice to people they’d rather not be nice to.

They have a quick dinner with the family; sometimes the kids are asleep by that time, so they chat or argue with their spouse. Then they go to sleep, and the next day they get up and do it all again. At the end of the week, they start counting the hours to reach the weekend.

“The trouble with being in the rat race is that
even if you win, you’re still a rat.” Lily Tomlin

The weekend arrives, they do some shopping, then hang out with the family, entertain the kids, and many of them get drunk to forget the tiring week that they’ve gone through. This same process is repeated their entire life as they hope life will change by itself, but it doesn’t. It doesn’t until they get a wakeup call due to a disaster or from a revolution that comes from within them. The fact is, you don’t have to wait for a disaster. It’s never too late to start over again.

This is the rat race of far too many employees. It’s one of my goals to help more people become aware that they’re caught in this routine, as many of them don’t discover it until they are much older.

Sometimes when I wake up early, I see the rat race in the morning at 8 o’clock as all cars are going to work at the same time, the traffic is horrible, and my brain draws a picture of too many rats leaving their homes and running in the direction of their cheese. This image repeats between 5 p.m. and 7 p.m. when employees are traveling home from work.

I often go to malls to eat, work, interview somebody, go to the bank, watch a movie or shop, but I try my best to avoid weekends in the malls because the heavy traffic brings the same rats there, when you have to struggle to park or simply enjoy your shopping experience. So I try to plan my visits to the malls on weekdays when most employees are still at work.

It’s important to diagnose the rat race that you’re in, and then take continuous focused action to escape it over a certain planned period of time.

Please share your experience and thoughts about the Rat Race?

Many people don’t know the difference between asset and liability, and as a result, most of those people struggle financially. Basically, an asset is something that is going to add money to your bank account or pocket, and a liability is something that’s going to take the money from your bank account or pocket.

When some people buy a car or a house, they think this thing is an asset. However, it’s usually a liability. If you buy a car and the car has a certain value, the value will go down the day you take it out from the dealership. There also are expenses related to the car that you are going to pay for over time, such as service, going through the car wash, insurance, and parking fees. A car basically is a liability because it’s taking money from your pocket.

The same thing with a house. So many people think when they buy a house that they’re going to make money or at least the house will keep its value, but the reality is that you are paying a mortgage, interest on the mortgage, maintenance for the house, insurance, and taxes in some countries. Sometimes the house’s value will decline because of the economy. A house is liability, unless you know what are doing as an investor. If you wish to invest in a house, you need to work out a formula to see if it will make money for you in order to consider it as an asset. Otherwise, if the money is negative, it’s a liability.
But if the money is in a positive trend, then yes, it is an asset. An asset always puts money in your pocket, such as when your income as rent from the house is higher than the expenses that you pay for the house. Then your cash flow is positive, and the house is an asset. Another example is in terms of capital gain: If you bought the house at a low rate and sold it later at a higher rate, you made money, so the house is an asset. So in the case of buying a house, it is essential that you study the capital gain and cash flow aspects. My advice is to focus more on the cash flow gain, because it’s continuous and instantaneous.
The same thing applies for your business. When you rent an office or building for your company, it always goes under the liability column, not the asset column, mainly because you are paying money for it, so it’s considered as an expense. However, if your company owns the building or office, then it’s an asset. Some companies put a property in both the asset and liability columns. In this case, they own the office building, so they consider it an asset. They also charge themselves rent to see how much they would be spending in the case that they didn’t own the office. They still add the charge of the rent as income, which helps them calculate their total operations cost.

So to differentiate between an asset and liability, consider whether your pocket or bank account cash is positive or negative.

We all have liabilities, but the point is we need to keep our assets or income rate higher than our liability and expenses. This allows us to use the extra cash to invest in more assets that will generate more income for us. A successful life as investor starts when you’re investing maybe 1–10 percent of your income and use the rest as expenses. Let’s assume that your income is small at the start: $1,000 per month. So you’re investing $100 and spending $900, but with time if you are doing well in your investments and your income jumps to $10,000, then you should not spend $9,000 and invest $1,000. Let’s say that obviously your lifestyle has become better and that costs more money. So at the point of $10,000, if you’re spending $3,000 and investing $7,000, then you’re spending 30 percent of your income and investing 70 percent. Then when you get to the point of $100,000, you should spend $10,000, which is 10 percent of the income, and invest $90,000 (90 percent).

I guess you got the point now; it’s simple, but for most people it’s not easy to implement. The name of the game is investing, but do you have the right skills to win more than you lose? The numbers will give you the answer to that, so make the numbers your friend.

What are the assets that you are currently trying to build, do you have any new ideas about assets development, Please share your thoughts below?

Everything starts with learning. If you want to do anything in your life, learning is the first and right approach that you need to take, because this is how you are going to discover your options and see if you like to take action on one of these options based on your passion and your gut feeling.

Why to Learn?

Some of us learn to achieve a goal or vision, to do something the right way, to see our alternatives, to change our lives, to live better lives, to equip ourselves before opportunity knocks on our door, to better manage our risks so we’ll be more comfortable, to provide the best future for our kids or our family, to understand how we can be happier, to add value to a community or society, to help others, to change the world, to solve a problem, to save a species from disappearing, to help our country, to manage a company more efficiently, to raise our kids the right way, or to enhance our self-esteem.

There are so many different reasons why we are learning, and most of them revolve about personal or social gain, pleasure, passion, adding value, self-esteem, and to solve a problem or make money. Life is all about learning and discovering, so this is why you have to learn.

What to Learn?

There are four main types of learning:

1. Academic (School)

To learn how to read, write, and solve basic math formulas.

2. Professional (College/Job)

To acquire specific skills to excel in a career as professional.

3. Financial (Real World/Different Resources)

You get this type of learning either from the real world, such as your business and life, or from different resources and institutions to understand how to deal with money and break its code.

4. Spiritual (Religion/Belief)

This type of learning will add balance and meaning to your life.

You can start learning things that are related to your passion; many of us are born with a certain talent, so start learning to polish and boost this talent. For instance, if you are a talented musician, you need to study music so you can read the notes or you can understand the history of the music and the types, so you can excel, adding value to the world and increasing your knowledge and talent.

Sometimes talent is not enough. Some great musicians who are talented, like The Beatles, never knew how to read or write the music notes.

“None of us can read music. None of us can write it.” – John Lennon, 1980

But when you add experience to talent, things start changing.

In 1960, while The Beatles were still an unknown high school rock band, they went to Hamburg, Germany, to play in the local clubs. They were underpaid, and the acoustics were very bad. The audience didn’t appreciate them, but what The Beatles gained out of this experience is hours upon hours of nonstop playing time that shaped them and made their music much better. As The Beatles grew in skill, audiences demanded them more and more. By 1962, they were playing eight hours per night, seven nights per week. By 1964, the year they burst on the international scene, The Beatles had played more than 1,200 concerts together. By way of comparison, most bands today don’t play 1,200 times in their entire career. Experience adds a lot to your learning. It allows you to diagnose your weaknesses and strengths, then make adjustments to bring the best out of you over the years. If you take a scientific angle and add academic studies and professional mentorship to your experience and talent, you can become stronger and reach bigger outcomes.

You also should learn about how to achieve your goals. You can read books, take courses, and attend seminars. You can learn about life, business, success, sports, and even being the best speaker. You can learn things that will improve your life. You can learn things that will save you time, such as time management and some other techniques that will allow you to get more things done.

Learning is essential, especially now in the information age. All the information is available around you, and it’s easier to get to the information. The world is moving very fast, so we need to keep up with the world. We are not in the industrial age, where things were going slower. Now, consistent learning is very important, so never stop learning until you die.

Many people quit learning when they finish school or university. Thinking that you know everything you need to is a big mistake. I know some people who have been graduated for 30 years and never read anything new about the subject that they studied, and they think that they know everything they need to know on that subject. The world is changing every second, and you need to stay up to date with what’s going on.

Learning will expand your way of thinking and your mindset. You will understand other cultures; you will be more flexible; you will be more open-minded; you will be less racist; you will understand why people have certain habits, why people who grow up in a certain country act like that, how their education, background, and habits have shaped their culture. Learning will expand your absorption and eagerness for more knowledge to answer more questions; as you know more, you can add more value by solving even more problems.

When I discovered my personal development path, it was unbelievable how it transformed my life. Now I’m eager to learn more and more, because day after day I feel its power is getting bigger and bigger.

Your learning also can be about finances. This will help you solve your financial issues and live a happier life, raise your kids in a better way, and achieve your goals faster. Money will help you do things faster, and if you know how to use it, it will boost your happiness level. However, money alone will not give you happiness; happiness requires fulfillment more than money, and money will not give you the fulfillment that you need.

It’s also very important what you decide to learn next. You need to pick what to learn based on your current needs and to take an extra step toward what you want to achieve. If you take a look at the books that I’m reading, you would see that I’m reading about investments and management today, and tomorrow I’m reading about happiness and habits. I read based on my current struggles or what I want to improve. When I struggle with ideas for investment, I go read about investments. If I want to understand how the banks are working, I read about banks. If I want to improve my negotiation skills, I read a book about negotiations. If I want to improve my time-management skills, I read about that. If I want to understand how video marketing and SEO works, I read a book about that.

You usually learn about what you want to improve, or your health, your life, your happiness, your business. If you want to solve a problem, learn more about it; you must master it before you can start adding your value.

How to Learn?

You need to figure out what are the most efficient techniques or ways that suit your learning style. That could be books, seminars, audiobooks, e-books, mentors, websites, university, school, experience, blogs, online or offline courses, your failures, or your successes.

I have found that the most efficient way to learn is to combine passive learning (reading and listening) with active learning (taking action).

Please share with us some of your most efficient techniques of learning that you have learned through your life journey?

“Broke is temporary; poor is eternal.” – Robert Kiyosaki

I’ve been broke many times. You know that time called “back to zero,” when you have nothing and sometimes you even owe thousands of dollars? Yes, I have been there many times, even after I made the transition to entrepreneurship. I call those times the “restart times” or, even better, “the restart time but be wiser this time.” It does not matter if you are back to zero after some failures; what really matters is what you have learned through that experience and that you know how to come back and stand on your feet.

One of the reasons I have been able to come back is that I learned how to invest. I continued to be broke for a couple of years, because whatever I was making I was reinvesting, testing new ideas or businesses. Of course, some failed and others worked, so I was always lacking in cash flow. Sometimes you need to be able to break into a certain level of cash flow to be able to finance your other projects, but when you are in an early stage of breakthrough, the restart times might repeat again and again until you find your own magic formula of success.

And sometimes what makes you broke is that you understand the power of investing and you start investing most of your money. As an early investor, sometimes you start with 10 percent to 20 percent of what you have. Sometimes when your knowledge of the investing subject exceeds your cash flow, it pushes you to try to invest more, regardless how little cash you have. I have been in this situation many times; despite my small cash flow, I still invest up to 70 percent to 80 percent of what I’m making. Of course, that process pushes you many more times into the restart time, but at the same time it stretches you more to succeed. Without stretching yourself, you will stay limited. Of course, when you have more at stake, such as a family to take care of, you need to be more careful with your stretching.

So being broke is not a necessarily bad thing. Even if you are not building businesses or systems, it’s normal that you sometimes fail and become broke. It’s not a shame that you are broke. This is how you are going to learn. When you start from zero and you have nothing to lose and everything to gain, you have more motivation to do something. The pressure shakes us from time to time, and sometimes this shake is good, because that is where most people take massive action toward what they want to achieve. Many entrepreneurs make the transition after they lose their jobs; so many entrepreneurs made the transition in the bad times of the financial crisis in 2007 and 2008. Since they couldn’t find a job, they took the entrepreneurial journey.

So coming back to zero a couple of times is not a bad thing. It’s part of the success and learning process. You better do it quickly and the younger the better, because when you are young, you are more flexible in stretching yourself and discovering new limits. When you’re young, you also can take more risks as you have less responsibilities. That’s why startups usually are led by people in their 20s; their drive is amazing and they are generally fearless at this age. So do it as early as possible in your life, so for the rest of your life you will enjoy the wisdom that you gained from these experiences.

This will be a priceless experience that you will never forget and you will always appreciate. But, of course, at the time of the crisis, you will feel pain, you will hate yourself, and you will have disbelief in yourself. But later on, when you look back and connect the dots, you will feel that this is what made you who you are: stronger, wiser, and more successful.

So being broke is a very, very normal thing. What is abnormal is being poor; this is when you have nothing but never bounce back from it. So this is what you should have in your mindset: Although the words mean the same for many people, you have to differentiate them and focus on the feeling of coming back, bouncing back. This is what is important; the real entrepreneurs can just bounce back.

After what I learned through the years, I made the transition. I’m not rich yet, but I’m financially free. I know I’m going to be very wealthy; it’s just a matter of time and more experiences, because I broke many areas of the money code, but it just requires more tuning to break it completely. Before you break the money code, you need to work on breaking many other codes, such as how to learn efficiently, how to have a vision, how to be persistent and fight to achieve your dreams, and many others. Each one of us learns to break different codes at many different levels, so breaking the wealth code requires breaking certain other codes. The most important aspect that you need to keep in mind when you break any code is time. For example, everyone is learning, but the question is how efficiently you are learning, whether you can achieve your goal within a certain period of time.

So the main point of this post is not to talk about being mega-rich, because I haven’t become mega-rich yet. If you want to learn something from someone, make sure to listen to the people who have achieved the thing you’re trying to accomplish. What I have accomplished is financial freedom, and this is what I’m trying to teach you about. So don’t listen to the people who want to impart wisdom about things that they have never done. I see so many authors or professors who talk about, let’s say, business, and they never had a business in their life. They never managed a company in their life.

If you want to learn how to manage a company, then you go learn it from somebody who has broken through in making a great company. If you want to learn how to be an investor, you go learn it from an angel investor or a venture capitalist.

This is the point that you need to understand: Being broke is a temporary thing. Being poor is something that’s going to continue and you need to do something to change that. It’s completely fine to be broke. And the point of being an entrepreneur, a real entrepreneur, is to know how to bounce back from your previous failures.

Before, when I was an employee and when I was at the beginning of my entrepreneurial journey, I was terrified, because I was confused on what to do. Again, I had to start from zero. But now I’m completely fine with coming back to zero, because I know that I will bounce back. I know how to bounce back from many disaster situations, and in case I still don’t know how to bounce back from some of them, I will figure out a way to do so. It’s important to learn and gain experience, because no one can take those two things from you, and those two things are what will help you figure your way out of a disaster. Maybe I will lose my money and make mistakes, but nobody will take this experience from me that has taught me how to bounce back. That’s why I’m no longer scared of going back to zero or becoming broke again.

Even if it’s painful, even if it will take time to bounce back, when you’re confident enough that you are able to bounce back, then you will become fearless in the business world. You will be able survive many disasters and come out of it stronger and wiser and more successful.

Here’s one example of the wrong crowd theory: Of the world’s workforce, more than 90 percent of these people are unwealthy employees; most of those people think that by following this path of work that they will become wealthy or will be able to live the way they want by having financial freedom. Less than 10 percent of the world’s workforce is considered wealthy.

These wealthy workers still don’t have the freedom to spend their time the way they want, because their minds are structured to work in the same way as all employees work but on a higher level or scale or position. That’s why you see many executives or CEOs of big companies enjoying big fat salaries but less freedom than lesser paid employees, because they are busting their asses to keep the chair that they are sitting on. The more you climb the corporate ladder, the more difficult it will become for you to live up to the responsibilities of the job that you have, so you become more aggressive in protecting the chair that you are sitting on. This is especially true when you have a family, a higher standard of lifestyle that you don’t want to lose, a big entitlement as an executive, and a title and position that you want to keep.

So are those people in the right crowd based on the outcome that they have planned? The answer is “no,” and the numbers and statistics are proving that. They are the crowd, they are the majority. It’s like the 80/20 rule, which when it’s applied to money, means that 20 percent of people have 80 percent of the money, and 80 percent of people have 20 percent of the money. Another meaning of the 80/20 rule is that 80 percent of your outcomes come from 20 percent of your inputs.

According to Wikipedia: “The principle was suggested by management thinker Joseph M. Juran. It was named after the Italian economist Vilfredo Pareto, who observed that 80% of income in Italy was received by 20% of the Italian population. The assumption is that most of the results in any situation are determined by a small number of causes.”

We are always affected by the environment around us. Our parents wants us to be like their generation. They want us to be doctors or engineers, as that is what they think is the best path for us to take, despite our feelings, passion, and things that we want to do. So many people in the younger generations are choosing certain careers because their parents advised them one day to study hard, get good grades to go to the university in order to get a high-paying job later. This trend is forming our economy’s structure.

Regardless of how close you are to reaching your goals, if you are persistent but don’t have a plan, you will reach nowhere. It’s like if you’re going to visit a place in another country. No matter how hard you work on getting to that place, if you don’t have a map to guide you to place you want to reach, you will never get there.

You need to find your own path and focus on it, focus on what you do best, which is the 20 percent, not the 80 percent. Let the crowd follow you instead of you following the crowd. Usually, leaders go somewhere that nobody has been before. So let the people follow you. If you want to be a leader, then start leading now; block the voice inside you that’s saying “me me me first.” Put the people that you are leading first and start leading them by example.

In the movie of your life, you need to be the director. You need to be yourself. You need to distinguish yourself from others and have your own character, so people will recognize you. Most of the names are similar, but people are different, so you need to be different. Think this way: Be unique, be innovative, be yourself, and focus on what you do best.

You always need to be in control of your life. You need to keep the joystick of your life game in your hand, especially if you want to be an entrepreneur. Entrepreneurs always take risks, because they want to be in control. They want to be in control of their lives, their paths, and their freedom. Employees will never be in control of their lives. They can be fired anytime and lose everything, because their lives are revolving around only one stream of income, which is their salary.

So stop following the crowd. Be unique, be innovative, be yourself, and focus on what you do best; become a leader, and let the crowed follow you.

We live nowadays in a more unfocused world due to the huge technological development around us. We are surrounded by many devices, such as small laptops, smartphones, PSPs, and iPads, that help us keep connected with social media, email, and other time-consuming activities. These things make you busier and unfocused. Before these gadgets, people would get bored from doing nothing; boredom is rarely found nowadays, as we are always connected to the Internet or gaming through a device. This is putting us in an unfocused state of mind. We spend so much time entertaining ourselves, posting photos about our lives, or acting on the urgent stuff that comes through emails and ignoring the important stuff that hours, days, months, years, and decades are passing very quickly with less action taken on important things. Now generations are spending their lives watching TV and scrolling their Facebook pages just to look at successful people; instead of learning from them and taking action, we keep looking at them and feel depressed due to this lack of focus.

At the time of writing this piece of my book about focus, I feel good. The reason is that I am focusing on this important thing — my book — after stopping writing for the last three to four weeks because I was busy with urgent stuff. Completing my book is not urgent, but it’s very important in the long term, especially after I die. A book is a legacy of your thoughts and ideas that can add value to other people’s lives and makes people remember you. All of us as human beings always drift into the urgent stuff and leave the important stuff that makes us feel great when we do them for later. The solution is to focus and develop a habit to do the important stuff first thing in the morning, or first thing after taking a shower, or first thing after watching a movie. I call this thing “the first thing after a certain break,” because usually after this break our brains are fresher and can better deliver on the important things. However, if you spend your entire day checking email, nothing in your brain is left to act on the important things properly. It’s important to always structure your day and prioritize. Start with your day; when you fix your day, your week will be fixed. After you fix your week, your month will be fixed, and so on, till you fix your entire life by achieving what you want through the power of focus.

Focus is a major thing for productivity and time management that you need to consider. Many people spend all their lives just wasting their time. And then they figure out after 30 years or 40 years that they did nothing – or maybe they don’t ever figure it out. Focus is a must to learn and master new things; you can master it by testing and practicing. Many people are sucked in by distractions; sometimes when they go online, they go to this video, then to that website, then to Facebook, then to email. They had decided to do something important, but then they got distracted by all these things.

There’s software programs that calculate your productivity, looking at which sites you are spending time on and giving you the ability to block some websites. There’s a program that you can use on your computer called RescueTime to track the time that you spend on specific sites and then try to structure your time. You can measure your productivity level for a certain period of time and compare it with your previous or next month’s performance. I use also Anti-Social to block specific social media sites when I start my computer for a specific period of time so I can focus on more important stuff. I also use Freedom to block the Internet completely on my computer when I start it or whenever I want so I can focus on more important things. Using a to-do list and not-to-do list are also essential techniques to help you focus, as is learning how to say “no.”

You can use these tools to increase your productivity and focus. You can also use the time matrix of Stephen Covey. You can see the details of it in the below diagram, which Covey has divided into four quadrants for the four types of activities (Important & Urgent, Important & Not Urgent, Not Important & Urgent, and Not Important & Not Urgent).

The First Quadrant (Urgent & Important)

This quadrant includes activities that are necessities.

Common activities:

– Crises

– Deadline-driven activities

– Medical emergencies

– Other “true” emergencies

– Pressing problems

– Last-minute preparations

The key action word for this quadrant is “manage,” as these important and urgent activities require extreme care in terms of managing them.

The Second Quadrant (Important & Not Urgent)

This quadrant includes quality and personal leadership activities.

Common activities:

– Preparation and planning

– Values clarification

– Empowerment

– Relationship building

– True recreation

The key action word for this quadrant is “focus”; this quadrant is what this chapter of the book is about, as these are the activities where highly successful people are excelling and most people are failing. These activities are important but not urgent, so there’s no time pressure to achieve them; that’s why most people ignore these very important activities. As a result, they miss the big, important achievements in their lives that the real value of their lives is centered around. Think of yourself in a mission in this life to deliver things of great value to others; others can be anybody from your family to any other people in the world. These activities are what will make people remember you; these activities are your great mission and legacy in this life.

The Third Quadrant (Not Important & Urgent)

This quadrant is described by the word “deception,” because the activities of this quadrant are deceptive.

Common activities:

– Meeting other people’s priorities and expectations

– Frequent interruptions

– Medical emergencies

– Most emails, some calls

– Urgency masquerading as importance

The key action words for this quadrant are “use caution” and “avoid”; in this quadrant we need to learn to say “no” more often or delegate to our team to take action on these activities. Outsourcing is a great technique that helps you delegate the unimportant activities. I also use a small whiteboard that I keep next to my desk or sofa where I sit and work. I write on it the major three to five not urgent and important tasks that I have to achieve every day and tick them out throughout the day. These tasks make me feel good when I achieve them and boost my self-satisfaction and energy levels to achieve more throughout the rest of the day.

The Fourth Quadrant (Not Important & Not Urgent)

This quadrant is described by the word “waste,” because the activities of this quadrant are a complete waste of our time and lives.

Common activities:

– Escapist activities

– Mindless TV watching

– Busywork

– Junk mail

– Some emails

– Some calls

The key action word for this quadrant “avoid”; in this quadrant we need to learn to say a big fat “no” more often and learn to take control of our lives to avoid these bad habits and replace them with more productive ones.

When I do something very important the first thing in the morning, let’s say write a chapter of my book — or a certain page, or paragraph, or a section — or work on a project that has been delayed, it really gives me a push throughout the day. This removes this regret factor that I usually feel when I get busy with the urgent stuff. When I just focus on the urgent stuff, it kills all my time and sucks all my energy, so I don’t deliver anything in terms of the important stuff that adds value to my day and life.

When you do the important stuff at the beginning of your productivity session, regardless of whether it’s in the morning or evening, it will make you feel better to complete the other stuff. You always need to give everything its time and divide your time, such as time to spend with your friends, time to spend on important stuff, and time for the urgent stuff. And you delegate as much as you can. These notes will help you be more productive to save time and achieve more.

When I kept creating new projects, I noticed it was draining my focus. However, the more team members you have that you can delegate to on such projects, the more you focus on the important stuff. If you feel distracted by a new project or new idea, put it on your to-do list for future projects. Queue these projects and prioritize till you get the right resources for a team and time to act on them. Don’t distract yourself by so many things; you end up frustrated, you quit, and you achieve nothing.

So when you start your day, you need to have a direction for it. You also need to have a bigger picture for your project or goals, such as to divide them into small goals to take better advantage of your time.

Having focus will direct you to take action. Don’t pick up the habit of opening your mouth when you see the success of other people and getting inspired by them but then taking zero action. Most people get inspired by successful people, but they do not think of what the successful people do. They get inspired when they go to seminars. Many people who get inspired and wowed, when they go back to their normal lives, get into their routine again, their comfort zone, and their rat race, and they get distracted. Then, they end up achieving nothing.

Nobody reads their notes when they go back after a seminar. You need to organize your notes; use, let’s say, Evernote to write your notes so you can access them when you want them, instead of when you just write them on paper and can’t find them later. Finding the right information and tools when you need them is essential to boosting your focus level. I use also iMindMap to draw Mind Maps for some projects or presentations that I want to act on. It will make you focus more, and it will draw for you a plan, steps, and directions to achieve more and be more productive within a very limited time. I use 2Do on my iPhone and Mac or use Evernote for my to-do list. Use a file cabinet to organize your documents in your office or home. All these productivity tools and techniques help you focus more on the important things.

Sometimes, I have more than 10 virtual assistants doing different stuff. Some people, when they see my pages on Facebook and they see the projects that I’m working on, they say, “How are you doing all of that?” Some people, when they come to my city, they don’t contact me because they think I am very busy. I am busy, but I’m more efficient by delegating most of the mechanical and repeated work and focusing only on the important things. So I can meet anybody anytime I want. I can work when I want from anywhere I want.

For instance, when certain tasks are done by me, such as social media, my social media guy is giving me, let’s say, a month plan in advance to approve it for him. And once I approve it, that’s it. He schedules the posts and he does it. But I just trained those guys to do certain stuff. Then they start doing it even better than me.

This is the idea: to train people to do things better than you so you can focus on more important stuff to achieve bigger things and more things in less time. So focus is a very critical and important thing. And you need to really focus on focusing on things in order to achieve. Otherwise, you’re in deep trouble.

Life keeps pushing us out of our focus zone, but we must fight back and learn to develop the habits that allow us to take control of our lives step by step and habit by habit till we take maximum control of our lives and learn to focus more on what we want to achieve to leave this world a better place than we knew it.

Share with us some of the tools and techniques that you use to stay focused in the comment section below please.

Employee

Working for someone else is rife with disadvantages, not least of which include:

1. Waking up early in the morning at a specific time

So many people are not morning people – and having to wake up early at the same time every day brings with it feelings of grogginess, not to mention discontentment. Everyone has a peak time of day – and having the flexibility to work within that time is important to your productivity and successfully accomplishing your tasks and goals.

2. Urgency and Routine

Waking up in the morning is a big hassle for so many people – even movies and ads frequently show people shouting at their alarms or throwing it somewhere. The employment life is all about running through a daily routine with so much urgency… wake up early, get the kids ready and off to school, rush to the office for your 9 to 5, then dinner, bedtime, and do it all over again. Not only is it mundane, but everything is rushed and tied to the clock.

Our lives should not be celebrated in the two days of the week called the weekend – need proof? Check out your Facebook wall come 3 p.m. on a Friday…You will see some posts like thanks God it’s the weekend or I wish this weekend will never be over.

3. Lack of control and authority

As an employee, you often lack control over your own surroundings and situation and you certainly lack authority – unless you’re already at the top of the chain. In truth, as an entrepreneur, you cannot control what happens – but you can control how you react and how you position your organization moving forward. You can think outside of the box and make the changes where you see opportunity – whereas when you are an employee, your words often fall on deaf ears.

4. Job Insecurity

You are always under the threat of being laid-off, there is no guarantee that you are going to stay in the company for ever, many variables with the time get changes in any company, of course there is a higher percentage of staying in certain companies compared to others, if you want to secure a longer time of staying at certain company then you always have to be in the lead and always make the company feel that it’s a big loss for them if they lose you, that’s why you see the continuous battle between the employees on certain chairs and positions.

Still regardless how you try hard to secure your job still many things go wrong, sometimes the top management get changed, or a merger or JV happens in the company, or your lovely manager is fired and the new one hate you and wants to prove you wrong in anything to bring his own new team. Many managers when they first get hired they try to change anything to show their superiors that they are changing something regardless if its right or wrong, they take some stupid decisions just to show that there is some activity going on so you might be one of the victims of this change.

5. Fear and Struggles

after losing your job In the recent economy, employees have started to live their lives in fear of when that layoff is going to come. When it happens, you go through the routine of polishing your resume and applying to every job out there, attending interview after interview, and trying to figure out how to pay your bills. That uncertainty wreaks havoc on your life, self-esteem, and health.

Really, it’s easier to learn to be an entrepreneur – you learn to reinvent yourself, to build something from the ground up, and how to succeed on a larger scale.

6. Work Politics and Policies

At any company you join as employee, big or small, there are always a long list of policies in place to which you must adhere – never mind the office politics that somehow always seem to appear. You will experience many unfair decisions or see many wrong policies implemented and enacted that take so much time and effort to reverse or change. You will see some managers be more flexible with some employees than others and you will see unfair compensation. Being an employee is, quite simply, frustrating.

7. Limited Income Potential

When you are the employee, you are helping someone else to get richer while you have a limited income that no matter how high you climb with the organization its still has a ceiling. Why limit yourself when you could better use your time to master your skills and grow your potential?

8. Limited Time

One big disadvantage of working for someone else is that you have limited time and flexibility in your schedule. You likely have vacation days (which may or may not be paid) and potentially even some sick days… but even with that, your schedule is likely pretty locked in unless you request time off in advance or call in ill. Even as an entry-level or mid-level employee, you will feel the pressures of living up to the company demands. You will fight with a menial paycheck to pay big expenses and fulfill your desire to spend time with friends and family… all within the limited time that you do have at home and off the clock.

9. Limited Mobility

Often times, people take jobs in locations that would not be their first pick – another disadvantage in today’s economy; you have to go where the jobs are. If you do want to relocate due to desire for a specific location or to be nearer to friends and/ or family, your options are limited. Even with large corporations, jobs are centered at a few key locations throughout the country – so your options typically lie in remaining at your current location or in finding new employment… neither is an ideal option. When you are self-employed, you can live where you want, do business when you want, and work how you want. If the weather is inclement, you work from home. If you need a vacation, you go. Entrepreneurship is the ticket to freedom in so many ways.

Efficient Entrepreneur

1. Freedom

Imagine a life where you can spend time with family and friends when you choose. Where you are not required to wake up to an early alarm every morning. Where you can take the time you need to do the things that you need. Your life as an entrepreneur brings you true freedom.

Many entrepreneurs thing the end goal is money – and while this is important, it is not the sole benefit. Even more important is recapturing the ability to be where you need to be when you need to be there. You can support the people in your life. Gain new skills and hone existing ones. The most important goal is your time. Most people are trying to do the transition from employee to entrepreneur because they are aiming to increase their income – however, if you work as a traditional entrepreneur, you will burn all of your waking hours trying to make more money. You will work harder than ever before – essentially, shifting from the employment rat race to the traditional entrepreneur rat race… it is not a happy equation.

To gain the freedom that can so easily be yours, you need to appreciate the potential of freedom and learn to achieve it appropriately.

2. Control

As an entrepreneur, your future is truly in your hands. You will, of course, make some mistakes – but if you learn from them, they are mistakes worth making and will help you to improve yourself and business practices. You will have the control to make the calls and will have control over your own future. That said, it is important that you carefully consider each decision point and that you know how to evaluate a decision from a business perspective, removing yourself and your feelings from that decision. Being in control of your own path is a remarkably great feeling: learn how to harness it.

3. Authority and Recognition

One of the most frustrating aspects of the corporate world is that, as an employee, your ideas and your work all go towards supporting someone else and their success. Often times, your contributions and innovations get buried – often resulting in someone higher up getting the credit and recognition for something that you have done.

When you are the inventor, you are in a position to better earn credit for your work. When you do something remarkable, you are the one who gets the recognition – not your boss or your boss’ boss: you.

4. Stronger Network

Networking is an important part of any professional career – but often times, you have to be someone before you meet “someone.” At networking events, everyone is looking for the big title – and what better title is there than “founder and owner?”

When you are an entrepreneur, you automatically have more clout and your potential to meet higher-ups increases. You will have an in to bigger events with bigger talent which will ultimately lead you to a larger, stronger network – which, in turn, will open many doors for you and your business.

5. Innovation

Innovation as an entrepreneur compared to innovation as an employee is an entirely different meaning of the word. As an employee, you innovate solutions or new ideas that will improve someone else’s product or service. Innovation as an entrepreneur means developing something truly new that will impact people’s lives. It is not just about making money: it is about adding true value.

6. Independency

Hand in hand with freedom comes independence. Being an entrepreneur allows you an opportunity to gain true confidence in your decisions and to take the reins of your own life and path forward. It is true independence: you are out there on your own and your destiny is your own to discover.

7. Bigger income

in the long run As an entrepreneur, your income potential has no ceiling. As an automated entrepreneur, you will move from project to project, beginning a new endeavor while your previous one is still running in an automated fashion. By running multiple work streams simultaneously – and smartly, you up your income potential incrementally.Initially, you will start small – and your monthly income will be small. But, as time goes on and your reach into new endeavors grows, so will your monthly income. Being a successful entrepreneur is about seeing the big picture beyond the immediate view – it is this long view that earns big returns.

8. Tax Benefits

Most countries around the globe have taxes – but as the entrepreneur and business owner, your work is taxed differently (at a lower rate) than standard employees. Additionally, you have options to write off business expenses in your taxes – there are a wealth of tax savings and benefits to explore.

9. Work with who you want to work with

As the company owner, you get to hire who you want to hire. You have the flexibility to hire your own team, selecting that truly fit the positions, personalities, and company culture that you seek.

10. Financial Freedom

One of the best benefits to being a successful entrepreneur is the financial freedom that you will attain if you do things the right (and automated) way. Financial freedom is truly a life-changing process – but it is not one that comes without its share of hard work and learning experiences.

11. Excitement

Perhaps one of the best things about being an entrepreneur is the excitement. Your life becomes an adventure – something that continually changes and brings with it new experiences. The risk lessens as you gain more practice and experience – so keep practicing and learning.

Take advantage of the freedom to explore, the freedom to live, and the freedom to build. Enjoy the potential of your time, your decisions, and your ideas. The excitement that comes with being an entrepreneur is so unique that you will never understand it until you try it.

“It’s fine to celebrate success, but it is more important to heed the lessons of failure.” – Bill Gates

Most people are scared of failure, especially when they make the transition to entrepreneur. Just like when they take an adventure, fear and failure are the biggest concerns of those people. But failure is the biggest tool of learning in life when you take action. When you fail, you learn – you just learn. After you fail, you start thinking, you take a break for a while, then you come back and try to correct your mistake.

If you have a certain project that you’re already working on, then usually it’s a kind of experiment. However, try as much as you can to calculate the possible failure’s reach, so you know where you’re heading and what the worst-case scenario is.

“Never test the depth of river with both feet.” – Warren Buffet

In some projects, the worst-case scenario may exceed what you have expected, especially if you don’t have certain experience. Sometimes something goes very wrong. However, trying to visualize and calculate the lowest possible point will give you some indication of where you are heading.

Sometimes when you look back at what you have done before and the challenges and failures that you have faced, you realize that it’s really what shaped you to succeed later. Failures will make you stronger with time and make you succeed in the future.

The biggest fear of most people is the fear of failing. I think that the most important thing to remember is to not quit your dream because you have failed before, because the biggest failure is quitting your dream. When you have started something, you have to either finish it or quit it after trying all the possible possibilities to make it work. Sometimes you try your best and the business still doesn’t work. However, you should know when to quit certain businesses to reduce damages when there is no hope of success so you can start over again somewhere else. Sometimes it’s good to fail fast and quit a project if you feel that it’s not going to work for you from the beginning so you can shift and focus on something else instead of wasting too much time and then quitting.

In some of my businesses, I felt the business at a certain point started declining. I tried my best to find solutions to buy time to test more methods to try and make the business work, but then I realized that there was no hope to continue based on the tools that I had at that point. In cases like this, you should shut it down and then start something totally new or try with another location for the same business idea that you tried before. But don’t forget to apply the lessons you learned from your failed project to the new project.

Most employees want to feel secure and don’t want to risk anything – I understand that. My advice to you is to minimize the risk by staying in your job while working on a part-time project. Try to dedicate one hour a day to learning something new. I assure you that if you put your mind into it, you will achieve something out of it, whether it’s a year or three years or five years from now.

Well some of you will say, “I don’t care. I work 9 to 5 and I drive 1-2 hours to come back home very tired and then I spend some time with my family and watch some TV.” That’s also completely fine, and I understand that, but still you can find 1-2 hours a day to work on something that will materialize in the future if you focus on it. If you are completely against investing 1-2 hours a day in something, then when you get fired from your job when you are 40 or 50 and you do not know what to do next, face the moment of truth and don’t nag about it.

You need to be responsible from the beginning and plan and think about what will happen in the future if you’re going to continue doing what you are doing now. Most people ignore everything; they don’t care. They just watch “American Idol” in the evening, sleep, and go to work. They keep nagging about the rat race that they are in, and for sure there is no solution for that unless you do something about it. And then they face the moment of truth when they lose their job and they don’t know what to do, because they have spent all their life just doing one thing and building only one column of income.

So you need to keep trying and understand that failure is the biggest teacher in life and business. It’s part of the game, part of the equation of success and of any business. When you approach any project or challenge in your life with this mindset that failure is an opportunity and it’s part of the game, then you will feel comfortable.

Recently, I was sitting at a café with a friend discussing some business ideas and my friend began to tell me about an idea that he had. At first, he was hesitant to say anything about it. It was not so crowded at the café but still there some people sitting around us. Finally, my friend decided he would go ahead and share the idea with me, but as he was talking, I noticed that he kept turning his head to make sure that no one was listening. He kept repeating that he wanted this idea to stay just between the two of us.

This is just one example of a situation in which someone has a great business idea, but they never take action. As a result, the idea just dies with them. The key to succeeding is to make sure that if you have an idea for a business that you take the next step and implement it.

Far too often, many people have an idea for a business and then they see that someone else has implemented the same idea. The difference is that one person acted upon their idea and the other person did not. Don’t allow yourself to fall into the trip. There is no need to try and reinvent the wheel.

Facebook, as we all know, is wildly successful. Even so, it was hardly the first social media site. Long before Facebook, there was MySpace. After Facebook, there was Instagram. Both sites have enjoyed wild success. They are both built on the same idea of social media.

There is no need to be afraid to share your idea. If you do not take action and share your idea with investors and others, nothing will ever come of it. There are many great services out there available for consulting that can help you to get your business off the ground, including Clarity.fm. With this service, you can chat with experts from a wide variety of different fields. You are charged per minute, but it is a very valuable service. You can also begin to attend startup events for entrepreneurs where you can network with others. Another option is to take advantage of the Internet. The Internet has significantly changed the way in which we communicate and now you can find out practically anything you want at the speed of light, through sites such as Google and YouTube.

Never just hide your idea and sleep on it; otherwise, it will simply die with you. Go ahead and bring it to light. Take the initiative to understand the investment process, what is involved in raising capital for your idea, such as how of your share you stand to lose with various investment options. For example, if you have a $10,000 idea and you raise capital from friends and family or angel investors, find out what type of share you may need to pay out and how much you will keep. Too many people never take action on an idea because they are afraid they will lose some of the profit. As a result, they never realize anything from their idea.

Do not let yourself be afraid to share your idea because you are afraid of sharing the profits with certain partners or even afraid that someone else has already implemented the idea before you. Bring your idea to light and share your success with others. Don’t be afraid that someone else will steal your idea. In reality, this only rarely happens. Of course, you could have people sign a NDA or non-disclosure agreement when you talk them about your idea, but be aware that investors may just ignore your idea if you do this. In the end, the key is not the idea itself as in general the idea does not represent more than 5-10% from the success of any venture, but whoever is willing to implement it is the major part that’s affecting the success of any venture. Be willing to take action, share your idea, and embrace success. Do your best and hope for the best.

For the successful ventures that you have how much weight as percentage you give for the idea of the venture vs. the implementation, Please share with us your story and/or thoughts?
